Starting your day with a healthy green juice is a practical way to boost nutrient intake, detox, and feel at your best. So, today, we rounded up a refreshing alkaline smoothie recipe for you, packed with plant-based goodness. Get your blender ready, and let's do it together!
For this green smoothie recipe, we carefully selected 6 ingredients according to their alkalizing, cleansing, and nutritional properties.
If you're unfamiliar with the alkaline diet, it's an eating regime that focuses on consuming alkaline-ash-forming foods to boost health and avoid disease.
If you imagine your metabolism as a burning fire, the food we eat gets converted or "burned" into energy, leaving behind a metabolic waste or "ash".
Acidic residues from meat, dairy, and grains are thought to be related to chronic diseases and changes in bone and muscle mass [1].
On the other hand, foods like fruits and vegetables produce beneficial alkaline "ashes".
The scientific evidence on the effects of an alkaline diet is still mixed, and more research is needed to confirm these claims [2].
However, we support its general principles, as the diet encourages the consumption of fruit, vegetables, and unprocessed foods while reducing animal products and added sugars.
Leafy greens like spinach, lemon juice, ginger and cucumber are some of the best alkalizing foods out there.
We used them in our smoothie along with honeydew melon and kiwi, which are low in acid but give extra sweetness to the juice.
Even if you're not following the alkaline diet consistently, you can still benefit from a breakfast smoothie prepared with alkaline ingredients.
Our green smoothie below packs lots of antioxidants, anti-inflammatory compounds, vitamins and minerals.
Also, thanks to the high water and low sugar count, it will keep you hydrated, control blood sugars, and help detox your body.
