Introduction

If you're on a plant-based diet and looking for a tasty alternative to the classic egg and butter sauce, you've come to the right place. With our easy recipe, you'll have a super silky vegan hollandaise sauce ready in just 5 minutes — no cooking needed!

The classic hollandaise sauce consists of beaten egg yolks emulsified with butter and lemon juice and heated over a double boiler. Although tasty, this French mother sauce is quite high in fats and unsuitable for those with egg and milk allergies or following a plant-based diet.

In our healthy variation, we swapped butter and eggs with blended silken tofu and almond milk. Then, we mixed them with lemon juice, garlic powder, turmeric, and nutritional yeast. The result is a super creamy vegan sauce that is egg-free, dairy-free, and low-fat.

Silken tofu is a very soft form of tofu made from coagulated soy milk. It has a higher water content than firm tofu, and thus it can be easily blended into a velvety cream. We used it in this recipe to make the hollandaise sauce creamy and rich in plant-based proteins.

Garlic powder, turmeric, and nutritional yeast add flavour, colour, and extra nutrients to our vegan hollandaise sauce. Just a pinch of garlic and turmeric gives a strong, pungent taste and a lovely golden tone to this sauce. Nutritional yeast balances the cream with its nutty, cheesy flavour and precious vitamin B12.

One tablespoon serving has only 9 calories, 0.4 grams of fats, and 1 gram of proteins. Compared to the classic sauce, this means seven times fewer calories, twenty times fewer fats, and four times more proteins. So go ahead, top steamed veggies or a savoury breakfast bagel with a generous drizzle of this awesome sauce. Enjoy!

Transfer the tofu to a bowl and pour in the almond milk.

Now, stir well until the ingredients are well incorporated.

step 3

Finally, tip in the lemon juice, garlic powder, nutritional yeast, and ground turmeric.

You can use half of the turmeric for a lighter tone or all of it for a deeper yellow colour.
